Gretel

We came here because of the positive reviews and we like the photos of the bar. The restaurant does not take reservations but we did not have to wait to get seated. The disappointment was that we were seated in the basement, we didn’t get the view of the cool bar. Our host was very knowledgeable with the food on the menu as well as the drinks. Her recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed the food. We had oysters on half shelves, chicken liver pate, sea brass, vegan sandwich, salad and the famous burger! All were great. We will come back to have drinks at the bar.

This is our go-to place for meeting and catching up. The bar is just gorgeous. It’s dimly lit with dark colors that enhance the ambiance. Come early if you enjoy a quieter atmosphere and come after 7:30 if you prefer being around more people. I’ve had almost everything on the menu at this point and everything is wonderful. We keep coming back for the French onion soup though, which is so good we routinely order it twice.

Food was delicious and service was solid! Good beer selection as well. The burger was juicy and the perfect size, the Mac and cheese was outrageously good and very gooey. Would highly recommend the burger and Mac and the ribs as an app. Only thing wasn’t blown away by was the old fashioned. Lots of ice instead of one big cube and taste was just ok. For $15 I expected more for the cocktail. Perhaps try a different one.

Gretel is a cozy and inviting gastropub. The menu features a variety of elevated comfort food dishes, made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. I started with the Monarch cocktail, which was made with chamomile infused vodka, pear and cardamom syrup, lemon, and elderflower water. It was a refreshing and delicious drink that was fitting for a warm summer evening. My sister-in-law and I shared the French onion soup, which was rich and flavorful. The bread was beautifully toasted, and the cheese was gooey and melted. I ate the Gretel griddle burger, which was cooked to perfection. My sister-in-law ordered the tonkotsu ramen, which was also delicious. The broth was rich and flavorful. We were able to sit at a community table so we could avoid the 45 minutes wait because I was starving. The wall of alcohol with the rolling ladder for staff to reach the top added to the experience. The service was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend Gretel to anyone looking for a delicious and relaxed dining experience.
